Testimonials

Student

The education industry suggests a rubric of ten qualities an instructor should have. In this case, Mr. Webster excels in five of those desirable qualities. He has high expectations for his students; he has clear objectives; he has management skills; he has knowledge of the subject matter; and, he has strong rapport with his students.

High expectations is an important factor in his model. By not settling for substandard work, he sets a tone for not only the integrity of the program but instills in the respective student a sense of accomplishment that means something.

Hand in hand with expectations is establishing clear objectives for each lesson. Mr. Webster lays out clearly what needs to be done, and demonstrates how it is to be done.

Almost a triad to the above qualities is good classroom management skills. There is a wide variety of students that come to his door. He deals with everyone with the same level of respect and makes a student feel included regardless of his or her talent.

Mr. Webster has an incredible knowledge base of tips and techniques. He has taught web design for a long time and consistently integrates industry best practices in his work.

Finally and most importantly, Mr. Webster has a strong sense of rapport with his students. He knows how to crack the whip as it were, but he is always available for his graduates. Although I have not chosen to follow a web design career, the information he has implanted with me rounds out my IT background.
Outstanding job, Mark!

As a student in the Media Design & Production program Mark Webster was my instructor. Mark made every lesson seem as though it were a shared experience, where I felt as though we were learning together. This made learning an exciting endeavor that I looked forward to each and every class. His hands on approach coupled with his vocational experience in the field made the academic experience a memorable one. Later, when I began to work in the industry I needed some specific artwork for a project. I knew exactly where to go to get a professional aesthetic design. Mark Webster created a timeless piece for my company that imbued his applied sense of content and form. It’s his heightened spirit and sensibilities that makes Mark a revered instructor and artist.

Following two decades of working for Eastman Kodak Company, followed by another two decades of military service, I was somewhat apprehensive entering a program full of twenty somethings, not to mention having been somewhat removed from a traditional academic environment for the preceding four decades. My apprehension was put to rest by the finest instructor I have ever encountered. Though I had been taught by some exceptional talent in the over 35 functional courses that my company and the Army had put me through, it was apparent none compare with the talents of Mark Webster. He is the penultimate subject matter expert in whatever he teaches, as well as a master at dealing with the many learning styles of those being taught. His classroom had an age span from nineteen to sixty. As a boomer preparing to put two teenagers through college I can only hope they will get teachers and mentors of the same caliber as Mark Webster.

Teaching video

Here I am helping a student adjust our camera slider. The best part of teaching is when one of my students gets a job and writes me a thank you letter. I treasure those letters. They are a validation of everything we do as teachers. One of my favorite sayings about the teaching business is:
You haven't taught, until everyone has learned.
